Getting a filling is typically the result of your tooth starting to slowly decay. Your dentist will need to remove the decayed area and then fill the area with either plastic, porcelain, silver, or gold. So how do you know when you need a filling? Here are the top signs you are in need of a filling:

  • Sensitivity – If you are experiencing sensitivity to your teeth, particularly to hot or cold, you may need a filling. Fillings should subside any sensitivity you are having.

  • Dark Spots – Dark spots are an indicator of a cavity and decaying of your teeth. When you have dark spots, your dentist may remove that area of your tooth in order to keep your teeth in good health. They will then conduct a filling to fill in the area that was removed.
  • General Pain – General pain in your teeth may be an indicator that you need a filling. Pain occurring when you bite down or chew on a particular tooth is not typical, and if you are experiencing this, you should make an appointment with your dentist right away.
  • A Filling Has Fallen Out – An obvious indicator that you need a filling is when an already existing filling falls out. This should be corrected as soon as possible for the proper function of your teeth.
